About Us
Hi, my name is Arabella, and I'm the Editor in Chief of Slag Magazine. I'm also a 24-year-old restaurant employee with a college degree in media studies collecting dust on my cluttered desk. I've decided to take a chance this year and create my dream job for myself, and that's why I started Slag.
Some might consider print journalism to be "dead" or at least an "unpredictable business to get into when you have very little experience." But I know that my generation is in dire need of a tangible cultural publication. The internet is no longer the reliable, never-ending source of information it once was. AI has negatively impacted everything, not just information but aesthetics as well. The internet is already ugly, and it's on the verge of becoming completely unusable. That's why so many art lovers have started to collect physical media like records and blu-rays. We want to have something we can hold in our hands and that we know won't be spontaneously deleted someday.
Slag Magazine comes from the same idea. Of course, we will publish many of our articles online, but the true appeal of Slag is having a physical copy. It's something you can put on your coffee table to spark conversation. It's a source of visual and intellectual inspiration. It's a way for the community of Los Angeles and beyond to connect through local places, people, and stories. The team behind Slag is a collection of young queer artists who are ready to have their unique voices heard.
